1. Acceptance
In these terms, "Cygnus" means Cygnus Project LLC, the operator of this site, and "we", "us", and "our" refer to Cygnus Project LLC.
Using Cygnus — browsing the site, casting a chart, creating an account, running an electional search — means you accept these terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service.
Continued use after a posted change to these terms constitutes acceptance of the revised terms (see §11).
2. What Cygnus is, and what it is not
Cygnus is a web application that computes astrological data — chart wheels, electional search windows, planetary positions, house cusps — from inputs you supply.
Cygnus is not:
- Personalized astrological counsel or prediction. The product computes; interpretation is your responsibility.
- Medical advice. No diagnosis, treatment plan, or health decision should be made on the basis of Cygnus output.
- Legal advice.
- Financial advice. No trading, investment, or financial-timing decision should be made on the basis of Cygnus output, even though electional search can produce timing windows that look applicable.
- A substitute for professional consultation in any of the above domains.
Cygnus is in active development. Features will change, data models may evolve, and the experience is not held to a professional-grade SLA. See §7 for service availability.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Cygnus. You represent that you have legal capacity in your jurisdiction to accept these terms.
4. Your account
You can create an account using your email and password, or sign in with Google if you prefer. One account per person. No account sharing. No automated account creation.
You are responsible for activity under your account. Notify us (§13) if you suspect unauthorized access.
No impersonation of others. For data access, export, correction, and deletion rights tied to your account, see the Privacy Policy.
5. Your content
"Your content" means the inputs and saved work you put into Cygnus: saved charts (birth data, location, subject name), saved electional searches (condition trees, parameters), settings (default location, tradition, theme), and any custom themes you create.
You retain ownership of your inputs. You grant Cygnus a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store and display your content back to you as part of operating the service. That is the entire scope of the license — no derivative works, no sublicensing, no use for marketing or training.
Computed astronomical output (planetary positions, house cusps, electional windows) reflects facts about the sky. Cygnus's specific presentation (chart wheel rendering, condition tree visualization, theme system) is Cygnus's work; the underlying facts are not copyrightable.
5.1 Sharing
Cygnus lets you create a public link to a chart you've cast. By creating a share link, you represent that you have the right to share the data it contains — specifically, that the birth data is either your own or information that is already public (a historical figure, a news event, a published chart).
You agree not to share another person's protected information — birth date, birth time, birth place, full name, or any other personal detail — without that person's permission. This includes friends, family members, public figures whose birth data is not already publicly documented, and anyone else who has not consented to having their chart published.
Takedown: if your information was shared on Cygnus without your permission, contact support@cygnus.so with the share URL and we will remove it.
6. Acceptable use
Personal, hobbyist, educational, and professional astrological use of the Cygnus web interface is all permitted.
You may not:
- Scrape the site or hammer the search engine, chart-rendering, or location lookup endpoints.
- Generate load that degrades service for other users.
- Circumvent authentication, rate limits, or any technical control.
- Reverse-engineer or decompile the application.
- Stand up an API wrapper, mirror, or competing service that resells Cygnus computations.
- Harass, defame, or invade the privacy of identified third parties through free-text fields (chart names, saved-search names, etc.).
- Upload malicious content or content designed to exploit the application or other users.
Cygnus reserves the right to investigate suspected violations and to take action up to and including account termination (§8).
7. Free during early access
Cygnus is free during early access. Some features will become paid later this year; we will give plenty of notice before that happens. Everything you save during early access will carry over.
When a paid tier ships we will give at least 30 days' advance notice of pricing and what moves behind it. Data you created during the free period will not be paywalled.
No subscription, no payment processor, no billing applies right now. These terms do not constitute an offer to sell. This section will be expanded when the paid tier launches.
8. Termination
You may stop using Cygnus at any time. You may delete your account at any time; mechanics, scope, and the 30-day completion window are described in the Privacy Policy §10.
Cygnus may terminate or suspend your account for a violation of these terms, for fraudulent activity, or for attempts to circumvent technical controls. Cygnus may terminate any account for any reason with notice and an opportunity to export your data, except where immediate harm or legal compulsion requires acting without notice.
If Cygnus shuts down, we will give reasonable notice and honor the data deletion and export commitments in the Privacy Policy during wind-down.
Sections that by their nature survive termination: §5 (content license, to the extent needed for operational wind-down), §9 (limitation of liability), §10 (intellectual property), §12 (governing law), §13 (contact).
9. As-is, no warranties, liability cap
Cygnus is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
There is no uptime SLA at the free tier. Outages may happen due to GCP infrastructure issues, deploys, dependency failures, or operator error. Cygnus will make reasonable efforts to communicate prolonged outages.
Cygnus does not guarantee output is without error, particularly for edge cases (extreme historical dates, polar latitudes for house systems).
Cygnus is not liable for outcomes of decisions you make based on Cygnus output — astrological, medical, legal, financial, or otherwise. Aggregate liability is capped at the amount you paid in the prior twelve months (which is $0 at the free tier). Consequential, incidental, special, punitive, and indirect damages are excluded. Where any disclaimer is unenforceable in your jurisdiction, the remainder stands.
You agree to indemnify Cygnus against third-party claims arising from your violation of these terms, your violation of law or third-party rights, your content, or your misuse of the service.
10. Intellectual property
The Cygnus web application (React Router 7 app, UI components, chart-wheel rendering, condition-builder UI, settings page, theme system, brand assets) and the astronomy engine that powers it are works of Cygnus Project LLC. Its source license is TODO.
The Cygnus name, logo, and visual design are reserved. You may not use them to imply endorsement.
Cygnus's astronomy engine is built on open-source astronomical work, with acknowledgments on the About page.
11. Changes to these terms
These terms are versioned in a Git repository — every change is diffable. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the current version.
Material changes (changes that affect your rights, the license in §5, acceptable use in §6, the free/paid scope in §7, termination in §8, liability in §9, IP in §10, or §12) will be communicated by email to accounts with at least 30 days' advance notice. Non-material changes (typo fixes, link updates) take effect when committed.
If you do not accept a material change, your remedy is to terminate your account before the effective date.
12. Governing law and disputes
Governing law: TODO. These terms will be governed by the laws of a jurisdiction to be specified before launch.
Before formal proceedings, the parties will attempt good-faith resolution by direct contact (§13) for at least 30 days.
If you are in the EU or UK, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your jurisdiction may override the choice-of-law clause above. These terms do not waive non-waivable consumer rights.
